Canada producer inflation rises to 14.5% as monthly prices surge
Canada's Producer Price Index (PPI) increased 2.0% month over month, exceeding market expectations of 0.9%.
The monthly increase accelerated from the previous 1.3% reading, indicating stronger upward pressure on producer prices and production costs.
Annual producer inflation also accelerated from 13.5% to 14.5%. Rising producer prices could worsen the inflation outlook if higher costs are passed on to consumers. The data may encourage a more cautious approach to interest-rate cuts by the Bank of Canada (BoC), potentially influencing the Canadian dollar and bond yields.
