Registered unemployment tops 2.3 million in Türkiye
The Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) released its labor market statistics for September, revealing that the number of registered job seekers increased by 3.41% year-on-year to 2,344,288.
This represented an annual increase of 77,208 people and a monthly rise of approximately 7,000. Women accounted for 51.2% of registered job seekers, while men represented 48.8%. Young people aged 15–24 made up 25% of the total. The number of female job seekers rose by 2.19% compared with the previous year, while the number of male job seekers increased by 4.72%.
Labor demand indicators presented a different picture. The number of job vacancies reported to İŞKUR by employers rose by 6.02% year-on-year to 225,562 in September, while job placements through the agency declined by 4.96% to 140,841. During the first nine months of the year, a total of 1,843,569 vacancies were registered, and İŞKUR facilitated employment for 1,087,541 people. The private sector accounted for 99.6% of all vacancies, with manufacturing recording the highest demand for workers. The figures indicate that despite growing employer demand for labor, job placements have not improved at the same pace.
