Mondi raises packaging prices to offset energy costs

Paper and packaging manufacturer Mondi announced on October 15 that it had increased prices for several paper grades during the third quarter to offset higher energy and raw material costs.

The company's underlying core profit rose 17.4% quarter over quarter to €196 million. However, excluding a forestry asset writedown recorded in the previous quarter, underlying profitability declined, partly because of planned maintenance shutdowns. Mondi shares fell as much as 8.8% in early trading.

The price increases demonstrate how elevated energy costs continue to affect industrial supply chains and packaging prices. Mondi expects its strong order book and higher selling prices to support performance toward the end of 2026 and into 2027. Nevertheless, continued increases in input costs could offset some of the benefits. Higher packaging expenses may also affect operating costs for food producers, retailers and e-commerce businesses.
