Morgan Stanley sets 8,000-point target for S&P 500
Morgan Stanley forecasts that the S&P 500 index could initially decline to 7,100 points before rebounding toward 8,000.
The investment bank's outlook suggests that U.S. equity markets remain vulnerable to a short-term correction, while their medium-term upside potential remains intact.
Morgan Stanley strategist Mike Wilson warned that the U.S. midterm elections, uncertainty surrounding artificial intelligence investments, and liquidity conditions could create selling pressure in the near term. Wilson noted that the 7,100-point level is approximately 9% below the index's record high. He also highlighted that U.S. stocks have historically risen over the six- and twelve-month periods following midterm elections since 1950. However, he emphasized that this historical trend does not necessarily imply uninterrupted gains throughout November and December.
