Nvidia commits $250 million to UK AI safety research
Nvidia announced on October 14 that it would provide computing resources worth $250 million over five years to support research into agentic artificial intelligence safety and cybersecurity in the United Kingdom.
The programme will offer approximately $50 million in computing access annually. Beneficiaries include Oxford-led BOLD, University College London-led SOFAIR and research initiatives at Imperial College London.
The commitment could expand research capacity for developing and evaluating advanced AI systems safely. By providing computing resources rather than direct cash funding, Nvidia aims to improve researchers' access to expensive infrastructure. The initiative may strengthen the UK's position in AI safety research, although its longer-term impact will depend on practical applications.
