Oracle cancels $7 billion Tencent AI deal

Oracle has reportedly cancelled a five-year AI computing agreement with Tencent worth approximately $7 billion, according to information emerging on November 4.

The proposed arrangement would have given Tencent access to up to 100,000 advanced AI chips through data centres in Southeast Asia. US technology restrictions and China's push for domestic semiconductor adoption were cited as contributing factors. No joint company confirmation has been issued.

The cancellation suggests that US restrictions on advanced computing technology may increasingly affect overseas cloud leasing arrangements. Chinese AI developers could face higher costs when seeking alternative computing capacity, while Southeast Asian data centre operators may encounter greater regulatory and customer-concentration risks.
