Şimşek to skip IMF annual meetings

Türkiye's Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek announced that he will not attend the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank in Bangkok, Thailand.

Speaking to Bloomberg following the October 12 cabinet meeting, Şimşek cited intensive budget preparations in Türkiye and ongoing developments in the investment fund market as reasons for his decision.

Şimşek said he would remain in Türkiye due to fund board meetings chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and ministry discussions concerning the draft 2027 budget, which is scheduled to be submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly on October 16. The IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings, taking place from October 12 to 18, are addressing major issues including global economic growth, inflation, financial stability, and rising debt levels.
