Şimşek pledges support for pensioners' purchasing power
Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek announced during the 2027 budget discussions that fiscal space had been created to support pensioners' purchasing power.
Despite global and economic shocks experienced in 2026, Şimşek stated that deviations from the economic program's targets had remained limited and that the policies implemented had strengthened the resilience of Türkiye's economy. He also announced plans to further reduce late payment surcharges and deferred payment interest rates in line with market conditions.
Addressing investment fund liquidations in the capital markets, Şimşek reported that a total of TL 130.2 billion had been paid to 614,874 accounts across 108 funds so far. He stated that 179,449 individuals had fully recovered their net investment amounts. Şimşek also revealed that approximately TL 9 billion in assets had been identified through investigations conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK). The minister emphasized that new regulations are being developed to strengthen investor confidence and intensify efforts to combat market manipulation.
