Singapore Central Bank Expected to Tighten Policy

All 10 economists surveyed by Reuters in a poll published on October 9 expect the Monetary Authority of Singapore to tighten monetary policy at its October 14 review.

Singapore's core inflation stood at 2.2% in August, while headline inflation was 2.3%.

Singapore manages monetary policy through an exchange-rate band rather than a conventional policy interest rate. Upside risks to energy and food prices support expectations of tightening, while robust growth could provide the central bank with room to act.

However, no decision has yet been made for the October 14 meeting.
