S&P freezes index changes for Turkish stocks

International index provider S&P Dow Jones Indices has decided to suspend certain index changes involving Turkish equities due to structural issues in Türkiye's capital markets and concerns over transparency in share ownership.

The company announced that no Turkish stocks would be added to its indices during the December index review. It also stated that quarterly and non-mandatory updates to share counts and investable weight factors for stocks traded in Türkiye would not be implemented.

S&P Dow Jones Indices has placed Türkiye on its 2026–2027 Country Classification Watch List to assess a potential change in the country's market classification status. The index provider stated that it continues to closely monitor developments in Turkish markets. Meanwhile, international index provider MSCI also froze certain index changes involving Turkish stocks last month, warning that Türkiye's emerging market status could be at risk in the future. These decisions carry significant implications for the position of Turkish capital markets in international equity indices.
