Türkiye raises qualified investor threshold fivefold

Türkiye's Capital Markets Board (CMB) has raised the minimum financial asset requirement for qualified investor status from TL 10 million to TL 50 million.

Under the board's decision dated October 26, 2026, the trading volume requirement for classification as a professional client upon request was also increased from TL 5 million to TL 25 million. The financial thresholds used for investor classification have therefore risen fivefold.

The new regulation also updates the financial criteria for legal entities to qualify as professional clients. In addition, the previous qualified investor exemption for real estate investment funds and venture capital investment funds has been abolished. Investors seeking to invest in these funds will now be subject to the general qualified investor requirements. The decision marks a significant change in investor classification rules across Türkiye's capital markets.
