US requests to SpaceX revealed
Biden and Trump administrations had previously asked SpaceX to activate or deactivate Starlink satellite internet access in certain countries.
The report cited six former senior US officials and described requests involving Ukraine, Iran, Yemen and Lebanon.
The findings raise questions about the national-security implications of relying on privately controlled satellite communications infrastructure. Recent restrictions affecting Ukrainian military communications could strengthen European interest in developing alternative systems.
However, it has not been established that every past government request was implemented.
