Trump moves to lower diesel prices
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order temporarily allowing “red diesel” to be used on public roads in an effort to reduce elevated diesel prices across the country.
Under the measure, payment of the federal excise tax on red diesel used on public roads will be deferred until the end of the year without interest or penalties. The federal diesel tax currently stands at 24.4 cents per gallon, and similar measures by states could provide greater fuel cost relief, particularly for farmers and truck drivers.
