Türkiye-US trade targets $50 billion
Trade Minister Ömer Bolat said economic and commercial relations between Türkiye and the United States continue to strengthen, with bilateral trade expected to reach $50 billion by 2028 at the latest.
Speaking at the ACE BPSC 2026 Conference in Istanbul, Bolat said trade between the two countries totaled $38.6 billion in 2025 and increased by 17% year-on-year during the first nine months of 2026. During this period, US exports to Türkiye rose by $2.5 billion, while Türkiye’s exports to the US increased by $1.8 billion. Bolat highlighted aircraft purchases and growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports as key drivers of trade growth.
Bolat said approximately 2,000 US investors and companies operate in Türkiye across manufacturing, trade and export activities. He noted that American companies’ investment stock in Türkiye stands at $16.5 billion, while cumulative investment inflows over the years have reached approximately $60 billion. Turkish companies’ direct investments in the US have also risen to $14.5 billion, with bilateral trade nearly doubling over the past decade. Bolat reaffirmed the long-term annual trade target of $100 billion set by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump, adding that current growth trends could push bilateral trade to $43 billion by the end of 2026 and $50 billion by 2028.
