Türkiye's steel production rises 6.1%

Türkiye's crude steel production increased by 6.1% year over year during the January–September period of 2026.

Data released by the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TÇÜD) showed that production growth in the steel industry continued throughout the first nine months of the year. The increase in crude steel output was seen as a positive indicator of performance in the iron and steel industry, a key component of Türkiye's industrial sector.

In September, crude steel production rose by 0.8% year over year to 3.2 million tons, bringing total output for the first nine months of the year to 29.8 million tons. During the same period, steel product exports increased by 1.9% to 11.6 million tons, while export revenue climbed 2.6% to $7.9 billion. Import volumes declined by 5.7% to 13.3 million tons, and the export-to-import coverage ratio improved from 77.9% to 84.4%. Highlighting a contraction in the European Union market, TÇÜD emphasized the importance of investing in high-value-added and low-carbon production to maintain the industry's competitiveness.
