Wealthy investors move their gold to Singapore
Global geopolitical tensions, rising government debt, and political uncertainty are prompting wealthy investors to store their physical gold in Singapore.
Investors from the United States, Europe, and the Middle East are moving their gold to Singapore to diversify their assets and take advantage of secure storage facilities. Precious metals firm J. Rotbart & Co. estimates that privately held gold in the country has increased approximately sixteenfold since 2014, exceeding 800 metric tons in 2025. A significant portion of this growth reportedly originated from Europe.
Customer gold holdings at Singapore-based Silver Bullion have tripled since early 2020, reaching 8.6 metric tons in September. Approximately 90% of these holdings reportedly belong to foreign investors. J. Rotbart & Co. stated that online inquiries from Western clients have tripled over the past year, while Indigo Precious Metals reported an approximately 25% increase in gold demand from wealthy European and American investors. Singapore's gold imports also rose 44% year over year to 171 metric tons as of August.
