Zorlu Enerji hit by sharp credit rating downgrade

Credit rating agency JCR Eurasia Rating downgraded the long-term national credit rating of Zorlu Enerji Elektrik Üretim AŞ (ZOREN) from BBB+(tr) to BB(tr).

In its assessment dated October 23, 2026, the agency assigned the company's long-term international foreign- and local-currency credit ratings at B+, while setting its national credit rating outlook at negative. The downgrade has renewed attention on the company's financial obligations and credit risk profile.

The decline in Zorlu Enerji's credit rating is significant for its borrowing costs and access to financing. Credit ratings provide investors with an indication of a company's debt repayment capacity and financial risks. The negative outlook suggests that downward pressure on the company's credit rating could persist in the coming period.
